Message from the President

Cindy Ernharth / MACCA President, 2022

“The wind taught me never to forget old friends, by blowing them back to me.”
Michael Bassey Johnson

One of the things we hear time and time again on the board is “MACCA is all about the people.”  MACCA isn’t just a community, it is our community; where professional connections grow into lifelong friendships. As the 2022 president, I share these New Year Resolutions with our membership.

Gather with your MACCA colleagues. whether is it via zoom, returning to our roots in Lancaster County or gathering in smaller groups around our region. I hope to once again meet with the friends I have made along the way through MACCA.

Let all of us look outward rather than inward.  Let’s stop, slow down and take in the world around you, from the sounds and sights to the smells. There’s a big world out there and in the words of Ferris Bueller: “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”. So, here’s to stopping and looking around. Spend more time outdoors. In addition to the obvious advantages of stress reduction, agreeing to spend more time outdoors also gives us the opportunity to appreciate our surroundings.

Let’s make a promise to ourselves and to each other to spend less time looking at a screen or through a lens. Let’s be mindful of our surroundings. Live in the moment. Take some time to switch off from emails, text messages and social media. Instead, get to those things you keep putting off or the new year’s resolutions that go unfilled.

Let’s make a pact to connect with our friends, loved ones (even if it has to be over zoom) and with nature. Even though we are looking outward, time alone and in nature will help us connect with our ourselves.

I hope that in 2022, MACCA is a part of your connection (or re-connection) journey.  Take the time to join a committee and get to know other members of our community. Join us for homecoming!
